Water Spout in Italy

Tag: General InterestKevin Hail @ 11:05 pm

I always felt like these were straight-up tornadoes.  People like to say, “oh, it’s just a water spout, no big deal”.  Really, it looks pretty scary to me.  A water spout is what you use to fill up your mop bucket.

Times are hard - Office cutbacks

Tag: Humorous, PhotosKevin Hail @ 2:17 pm

I gotta give it to my 5 year old daughter for finding a way to save some bucks while she was creating an office.  Use a picture frame for a monitor?  Sure, it may not be very dynamic, but at least the resolution is pretty good.

Scientists Not So Sure ‘Doomsday Machine’ Won’t Destroy World

Tag: General InterestKevin Hail @ 4:06 pm

I read a fiction book some time back that detailed this scenario.  So disturbing.  I’m a huge proponent of scientific discovery, but should these folks get so reckless with something that carries such great consequence?

Virginity is not an Ebay auction item

Tag: General InterestKevin Hail @ 5:39 pm

I came across this little dandy.  Call it a sign of the times.  In the link below, you get to hear first hand from a young woman that it is selling her virginity online for the first time under the auspices that it’s a social statement.  The winning bid thus far is about $4mm.  She’s very proud of herself for not “giving away” her most treasured possession, and instead finding a way to profit and wrestle control away from age-old norms that men control women’s sexuality.

The most saddening statement in this article is right here…

At the university level, I was given permission to think differently and form a moral code of my own design.

To many, this doesn’t sound so bad, but there is a term for it called Moral Relativism.  My truth may not be true for you and vice versa.  Are we to the point as a society that we can’t agree on some things being just flat out wrong?  Is this not wrong?  It would be interesting to do a time travel experiment and see the reaction you would have 20 years ago and 20 years from now.  My assumption is that 20 years ago, she would have been nearly vilified and ostracized by everyone she knows.  Now, most are disgusted but kind of roll their eyes and move along.  I would imagine that 20 years from now, this will be a common practice.

When societies no longer agree on right and wrongs and we are all individually allowed to form our own moral code, then get ready buddy, cause rape and murder are on the dinner menu.

Office Space reunion - Austin - Feb. 18

Tag: General InterestKevin Hail @ 9:54 am

Hey, Peter Man, if there are any Office Space fans out there, you might want to consider making a sojourn to the 10 year anniversary special screening in Austin on February 8th.  Much of the cast, including Michael Bolton and Samir Anakdkdfkjsfkda will be in attendance.

If I lived in Austin, I would make serious inroads to attend.

Uhhh, yeah, could come in to work this week.

Circuit City is done

Tag: BusinessKevin Hail @ 11:01 pm

This is such disheartening news.  I really liked going there.  It used to be so wonderful to hit the trifecta of CompUSA, Circuity City, and Best Buy when I was looking for something.  Now, I only have Best Buy.  I’m starting to get panicked that Best Buy won’t survive and then I’ll be stuck with Radio Shack.

How is Radio Shack still in business?  I can’t remember the last time I’ve purchased something from there.  Seems like the only thing they have are HAM radio parts and cheap RC cars.

What’s next?

Tag: UncategorizedKevin Hail @ 12:01 pm

In an effort to satisfy the consumer’s insatiable need for something new, 7-up released a new flavor. I actually tried it and liked it, but come on, pomegranate flavored? I’m recommending a few to see if they hit…Fish 7-Up, Monkey-Dander 7-Up, Hint-O-Leather 7-Up, etc.

On an unrelated note, does anyone remember the childhood game, 7-Up? It went…”heads up, 7-Up” and I’m a little fuzzy on the rest of it. Anway, that’s a great game and I’m wondering why it died by 6th grade.

This is a new image I captured. You be the judge of whether or not it’s possible to find a tree this color in Texas.
