The house that God built

The other night I witnessed one of the greatest sports moments I’ve ever seen.  Former drug addict, baseball wunderkind, Josh Hamilton, turned his life over to Jesus Christ a few years ago when he was at his lowest point and is now one of the best baseball players in the world.  Now he is a hero to young and old for his powerful message of hope for those who are tied up in drugs and alcohol.

In the first round of the All-Star Game’s Home Run Derby on Monday night, he blasted a record 28 home runs.  The next closest guy had 8.  What made this event extra special was that it’s the last year of the great Yankee Stadium.  This stadium has seen Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Reggie Jackson, etc.  Hamilton mesmerized the crowd of 55,000 New Yorkers and had them chanting his name.  Folks, this DOES NOT happen in New York.  They’d boo their own mothers for being too slow to get to first.  It was a magical moment for everyone watching.  As one writer later said, “It was the house that Ruth built, but the house that Hamilton brought down.”
